We are looking for an organised and motivated general assistant to join our team to help us ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the office and general operations. This is a busy environment and you will be required to take on a variety of different tasks depending on the business needs. It is essential that you can work as part of a team.

Croft Mill is a small family business, a long standing business originally based in Foulridge. In 2009 we moved the mail order part of the business to Colne. We are an on-line fabric retailer and wholesaler and we sell beautiful craft and dress fabrics sourced from all over the world. We have a loyal and dedicated customer base. The successful candidate will join a small and friendly team of five permanent and full time staff.

Job Description

Day to day the role includes:

Sorting the paperwork for online, postal and telephone orders.
  • Responding to customer enquiries by email and phone.
  • Helping with the sampling process, doing sample orders and keeping the sampling department tidy and up to date.
  • Taking orders over the phone
  • Taking payments and refunding of payments
  • Filing
  • General office tasks, such as Shredding, ordering stationery
  • Help to keep the offices clean and tidy
  • Ordering fabric from suppliers
  • Assisting with stock management e.g. stock takes, reordering, organising shelving and sampling space
  • Packing, weighing and organising the shipment of orders

You will also be asked to:

  • Assist the Director with a range of tasks
  • Help to keep the offices clean and tidy
  • Unpacking and labelling of deliveries
  • Cutting fabric for orders, this is only when necessary.

Essential Skills:

  • Organised, tidy and efficient
  • Good telephone manner
  • Good understanding of using a PC
  • Able to lift rolls of fabrics when required (up to 15kg)
  • Flexible and happy to take on additional duties to help the business
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Polite email etiquette to communicate with customers

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience of fabric and sewing.

Hours, Pay and holidays:

Full Time £16,500 - £17,500 per annum pro rata, depending on experience.

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9-5pm

20 days holiday plus statutory days in the first year of service, 22 days plus statutory days thereafter

(we are closed bank holidays and at Christmas so days must be taken at these times).

Contract: Permanent

Probationary period: 6 months

Sick pay: At the company’s discretion but non paid in the first 6 months
